Until now, staking via Lido from an L2 like Linea required multiple steps: Bridge ETH to mainnet → stake → bridge wstETH back Direct Staking compresses this into a single transaction. No manual bridging, no waiting periods, no centralized intermediaries.

Powered by Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), Direct Staking uses Programmable Token Transfers to send both tokens and execution instructions in a single atomic transaction. This makes frictionless, one-step staking possible.

Two staking pathways are supported on Linea: 1. On-Demand Staking: ETH is sent cross-chain via CCIP to Ethereum mainnet, staked through Lido, and wstETH is returned directly to the user’s Linea wallet. 2. Liquidity Pool-Based Staking: Users receive wstETH instantly from a liquidity pool on Linea, with pricing verified by Chainlink Data Feeds. The staked ETH then replenishes the pool in the background.

Chainlink CCIP is central to this launch - the only interoperability protocol with level-5 cross-chain security - adding extra protection through its Risk Management Network. It ensures that cross-chain staking transactions are executed securely and reliably.

With Direct Staking now live on Linea, users and protocols gain native access to wstETH without ever needing to leave the Linea network. Lower costs, faster transactions, and seamless yield access. All within Linea’s zkEVM environment.
