it's weird to me how many ppl always think an l2 is good for ethereum
take megaeth. lots of ppl use megaeth as a bullish eth catalyst. this is nonsensical. megaeth has a bridge to ethereum, but it uses eigen for da and if is successful will take liq from ethereum l1 and base/arb

Don't have unrealistic expectations. L2 at the moment is such a broadly defined category that it barely means anything; L2s can even compete with Ethereum. To properly understand the positioning of a project, try to understand these properties:
- does it compete with Ethereum's core business (that's DeFi at the moment)
- does it use the same tech and will it contribute it
- will it burn ETH or otherwise accrue value to it (e.g. buying services from Ethereum L1)
These will be a much better guide to how good a project is for Ethereum than whether it's an L1 or L2 :)
"The question is whether we would like to see this built inside Ethereum, or outside of the Ethereum ecosystem? I vote the former."
i actually take my comment here back. i think it would be better for ethereum if megaeth was built outside ethereum.
by branding it as "aligned" with ethereum, it has a higher chance of siphoning liquidity from ethereum mainnet and da paying rollups. if it was truly a new l1 it would be harder to get this social consensus.
by branding itself as "beneficial" to ethereum, it is more likely to succeed in cannabilizing it and its rollups.
